Hi Brenda
St Peters was the parish church of Carmarthen, but there were quite a few
early non-conformist chapels in the area at that time. In Carmarthen
eventually there were 3 parish churches, namesly St Peters, St Davids and
Llanllwch.
St Peters is on our web site pre 1800, if you can get that far back that
should be able to assist you.
You could request a look up from the CRO into the St Peters registers, they
will do a one off look-up for a certain time span for free, especially if
you ask them nicely. I have not been for quite a while, not during the
school summer holidays, I am due to go back next week for indexing etc.....
If you can obtain her fathers name, we will have the marriage details on my
marriage indexes pre 1837.....should be able to match up with fathers name
and just the mothers first name......
Ask in Carmarthen Record office, if they would undertake a look-up as
Stephens is a much easier one to locate than Davies or Jones......and they
will oblige you....
their emial is
Archives(a)carmarthenshire.gov.uk
let me know what they tell you, and we'll go from there.....
My great grandparents were from Kent, but they left Kent and came to Swansea
in 1850's......named Harwood and Friar......
regards Pauline

Hello Pauline,
Thanks so much for your prompt reply. Having only just found Mary's
maiden
name today, I've only had time to check for her marriage to James
Clark on
the IGI and Freebmd, with no luck. The years around the time they were
married are not fully transcribed yet.
I might have to wait until transcriptions are complete, as searches are
expensive, and I've no idea where they married. There really were a lot
of
James Clark's around! Is St. Peter's the only church that
was in
Carmarthen
up to the early 1800's? If that's the case, I can pay for a
search of
christening records for a couple of years around the estimated year of her
birth, although it's unlikely to show the maiden name of her mother. I
appreciate your help.
Kind regards,
Brenda
