Hi Mal
I hope Ellyn enjoyed the Garnant Male Voice choir.....we had hoped to have
delivered 1891 census to her by Monday...but slight hic-cup.....
I wrote on the members pages congratulating Ellyn on her wonderful write-ups
in Carmarthenshire Life Magazine...re Italian POW Church Henllan, and also
the article on John Gould Ammanford's Postman....very well done - I don't
know how she finds the time to cram so much in.....
speak soon Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Many thanks for the prompt delivery of the set of eight, 1891 Census CDs',
which Ellyn received this morning.
Ellyn asked me to thank you on her behalf as she had to rush off
tonight
to listen to the Garnant Male Voice Choir performance in the New Bethel
Chapel, Garnant.
Undoubtedly she will be in touch with you shortly.
Many thanks once again, for such a professional and prompt service
provided by
yourself and Richard.
And, whilst I'm e-mailing the 'CARMS' List ............ or should I say
the 'BEST' List.
Hi Pat in Perth,
You are perfectly correct..... The Mynydd Du is now the Mynydd Gwyn :-)
Also, Mynydd Betws overlooking Ammanford is snow crested, although the
Amman Valley
is as green as ever. The only problem being the chilly, lazy
winds blowing down the valley from Brynamman, via Gwaun cae Gurwen, as you
of the Garland clan, should know about!
If you or any other lister is interested in Alexander Cordell books,
you
might be interested to learn that they were republished in 2000, in
paperback form by Blorenge Books, Llanfoist, Abergavenny and are on sale at
six pounds, ninety nine pence each. Worth every penny if you wish to be
taken back to the lifestyle and working conditions that our forefathers (and
mothers) lived.
I have no commercial interest in these books but to my way of
thinking, to
really enjoy genealogy you need to understand the lifestyle of your
ancestors and these books are the next best thing to speaking personally to
your ancestors.
Two other titles by A. Cordell not mentioned in recent e-mails are
'The
Sweet and Bitter Earth' and 'Land of My Fathers'.
As a born and bred Welshman, living in Wales, of fifty nine years of
age,
on the scrapheap of life through disabilities caused by coal mining, petro
chemical and other industries and moulded and hardened by the University of
'Life's Hard Knocks', I have to admit that I still feel the 'hiraeth'
when
reading A.Cordell's works.
Maybe its because I'm Welsh.
We are a sentimental and gentle nation (other than for rugby) and perhaps
the
'hiraeth' cannot be experienced by persons from other nations.
Keep up the good work Pauline and Richard. It means so much for listers
like myself
to hear and occasionally contribute to your CARMS List on
subjects not strictly genealogical.
regards,
Mal Davies........... Ammanford, Carms.
