Hello list,
I ashamed to say that I probably have only read a dozen or
so "fictional" books in my life !! One of which WAS Rape of the fair
country" The last sentence of Pat from Perth's email is completely supported
by me, you really do get the "feel" for how things were & I would be
surprised to hear of a better book. Having enjoyed the read so much, some
20 years ago ! & being reminded of it's existence from recent emails on this
list I intend to get it from the library, they do have a copy.
I am nicely surprised to hear that there was a trilogy & now intend to
extend my dozen reads to fifteen. I hope Hosts of Rebecca & Song of the
Earth are as good.In short, Rape of a fair country, highly recommended.
Happy reading ,
Paul
(Somerset) about to venture out in this horrible weather to do a night
shift.

Just a note on Alexander Cordell and his Trilogy, Rape of the Fair
Country, The Hosts of Rebecca, and Song of the Earth ( I still have a well
worn paper-back copy of that). My late brother Jack worked with A. Cordell
in Haverfordwest, they were both Quantity Surveyors working for the Civil
Service doing the same job as my brother had done during his many years of
service with the RE's. Jack shared with me the profoundest regard for
Cordell's ability to describe events. Any Lister who wants to get a 'feel'
for how things were in Wales during those turbulent years can do no better
than to read his books. Pat. Perth.
