As is usual this time of the year, Welsh Publishers bring out a number of new
titles in preparation for the National Eisteddfod. Amongst this years crop
are the first titles in a new series from Welsh Academic Press, which may be of
interest to list members.
The series is called "The Histories of Wales" edited by Catrin Davies Senior
Lecturer in History at Trinity College, Carmarthen. Each book in the series
"will be a concise and scholarly history of a particular Welsh region suitable
for students and academics yet written in an accessible manner so as to appeal
to the general reader. Each title in the series will be published in
paperback, approximately 200 pages in extent and priced from £9.95. The first titles in
this new series will be published in Spring 2002."
The first three volumes available are Histories of
Pembrokeshire by Roger Turvey
Anglesey by David A Pretty
and
Carmarthenshire by Dylan Rees
Although I've known Ashley Drake, the proprietor of Welsh Academic Press, for
many years, I have no commercial or other interest in "plugging" these books
- I am recommending them just because they seem an ideal way to get a
background picture of the areas from which our families hailed.
For those unable to purchase the books through their local shop, they can
also be ordered on-line from Ashley Drake's website:
