Hi Cathy - Sounds as though real gems can be found in the Australian
archives. Thanks for the URL - will try it myself.
I've been on the look out in Carmarthenshire for my Hugkulstone/Hugleston
family over the last couple of years, and briefly got excited about the
possibility of a Hugh Goulstone being the origin of my unusual name -
sometimes spelt Hughulstone. I think it an unlikely derivation, but as you
are researching the Goulstone family, I can't resist asking you if you know
of a Hugh or Hew? ;) - Rosemary in Sussex

Subject: [Cmn-L] Australian archives - James Picton Davies
Hi
Whilst searching the Australian archives,
www.naa.gov.au I came across an
entry which may be of interest to a Davies researcher. I cannot tie it into
my own family yet.
James Picton Davies enlisted into Australian Empire Forces as a driver 17.01
1916
aged 25 years 6 months born Laugharne, a farmer
father W Davies of Moor Farm, Laugharne
served in France and demobbed in London 14.02 1919
Final pay receipt was witnessed by J M Davies in Laugharne.
There are 26 pages of detail, height, colour of eyes, where served, medical
record etc.
It would appear that he was turned down by British Army due to poor eye
sight and left for Australia, where he was accepted!
Hope someone can benefit
Best wishes
Cathy
