HI Jackie
The story is true about the George IV pub, I know that Ellyn and Mal like
relating the story on that one, so I'll leave that to Mal.....
You have viewed 1901, Carmarthenshire FHS have census on digital images
available to purchase for the whole of Carmarthenshire for 1841-1901......I
feel that the following one may be of use to you, which includes all the
following parishes on the one CD....the following parishes are on the one
1891 CD
Bettws, Brechfa, Llandybie, Llanfynydd, Llanfihangel Cilfargen, Llanegwad,
Llandeilo fawr and Llandyfeisant, Llanfihangel Aberbythych, Llangathen,
Llansawel and Talley
that is one whole block completed.....the cost of the CD to obtain all of
those parishes is only £7.50, much cheaper than petrol to view in most
record offices/libraries...

Subject: [Cmn-L] WILLIAMS family
Dear all
Thank you so much for responding to my queries with regard to my husband's
WILLIAMS ancestry. I was very fortunate to be on holiday last week in a
wonderful farmhouse situated not far from Cwmtwrch. I visited the George IV
inn on a beautiful sunny day and was much impressed by the setting beside a
river. Thankfully one of the m-i-l's cousins came to meet up with us and
he took us to the cemetery at Cwmllynfell. For this I was very grateful as
the headstone was written in Welsh and I wouldn't have stood a chance in
trying to decipher it! I now wish I had purchased the book of Welsh words
and their meanings when I visited Kidwelly Castle.
Anyway I digress the information supplied from yourselves is extremely
helpful and I doubt very much if I would have been able to work it out by
myself! I shall take advice and post the same to the Dyfed mailing list and
Mal I very much appreciate your offer of a scanned copy of the map if you
could send it to me.
If I could ask a further question, which census would I need to use to find
this family? I've has the map out again and it seems that I have a choice
of three with Camarthen, Powys and West Glamorgan. I'm so used to dealing
with Cornwall and Bristol ....
And for those of you who may not know the 'cousin' told us an interesting
fact with regard to the George IV pub. As the three counties intersect 'in'
the pub, when 2 of them were still 'dry' on a Sunday you were only able to
drink in the area that allowed consumption of alcohol - it would be
interesting to know if it was a tight squeeze!
Thank you all once again.
Jackie
