Hi Bryan
I only have two Owen Richard/s in 1851 census index (of which I have already
completed) one is the 12 year old, the other is an 18 year old taylor in
Llannon
I have found a Henry Richard in his 30's with a wife Rachel...
Llanegwad 1851 census enu dist 1Cb
sch 16 page 5
Newcrooss
Henry Richards head 38 ag lab born Llanllawddog
Rachel Richards wife 36 born Llanpumpsaint
David Richards son 9 born Llanegwad
Is this entry any good to you?
Why don't you ask in Carmarthen registry office if either of those marriages
you quote have a father named Henry.....
Let me know if I can help further....my marriages only go to 1855 .....(with
gaps)
Pauline

Hi Pauline
Thanks for your prompt and efficient reply.
You have confirmed my worst nightmare. Without
this information I may have been trapped down the wrong branch.
I was working on the theory that in 1851 Owen was possibly with
his grandparents and having a father of Henry Richards
but in my case in 1851 his father would have to be Henry Richards 38
Labourer
living at "Monachty" which is a house and dwelling 1841 Tithe map plot No
1192
of 1 rod and 20 perches. and his mother would have to be Rachel Richards
nee
Jones.
It looks like the witness at the 1876 registrar wedding is not his son
but someone with all the pointers, correct age profile, father's name.
Even the 1881 saying he was an accountant was promising as Rachel
was a long serving treasurer at Sittim Chapel and he might have got the
idea from her.
But Owen is probably just an official at the registrars.
However there were two marriages 1866 for Carmarthenshire
both for an Owen Richards and Elizabeth Richards
One in March quarter and One in June qtr
Don't tell me both had father's called Henry.
Alternatively John Richards family maybe worth looking at
the childrens names of Mary, Anne, Richard, David and John fit the
profile.
Should be worth seeing John Richards baptism,
Unfortunately Carmarthen Archives only have land tax for on year 1798
the rest are at Kew, if Henry's father was a timber merchant I should find
him
paying land tax some time around his birth date. Luckily Glamorgan has
many covering about 1778 - 1831 they are a great source of finding people.
Oh well back to the drawing board and a trip to the big Smoke.
regards
Bryan
