Seems we got disconnected so let's have another attempt to clear up the
St.Clairs details.Pat was thoughtful and kind enough to send me the two
notes you, Pauline , sent which I was unable to receive.
When John Charles,43, m.Ann Edwards,35, on Oct.12/1872 both of the
Wern, Llanelli, the groom's father was described as John Charles
(deceased). The brides father was William Edwards. This was Ann's
third marriage having previously been married to a Rees and a Griffiths
- all offspring shown on the '81 census residing at Ann St. Llanelli.
This would make their respective birth years as 1829 and 1837 - give or
take a year.
Ann Edwards was one of a son and five daughters of John Voss's
daughter, Margaret, who married the said William Edwards. Therefore I
don't think the John Voss - 29 in the '51 census is our man.
But back to the Charles bit. It is, according to the family historian,
the John Charles, the deceased father of the John who married Ann
Edwards that moved from St.Clairs to Pwll to keep Penllech Farm, Pwll.
I have no idea of any previous names or abodes and I can add no more
dates. I'm so sorry I can not be more helpful.
You did refer to John Charles aged 8 living in St. Clairs, Gelly Fach
but in what year?
Thank you, again, for all that you have done.
Vaughan Lewis.
p.s. I believe The Wern was synonymous with Ann St.
