Dear Joe, further to Joy's message there is a book
'Myddfai its Land and Peoples' by David B James
ISBN 0 - 9517470 0 2
which has 6full pages covering the story with pictures of this
topic.......I know that this book is out of print, but perhaps you could
find a copy somewhere.....
**quote
The estate and fortune of David Williams descended, since there were no
direct heirs to a nephew of his wife by the name of George Griffies. This
was on condition that he took the name Williams, thus he was henceforth
known as George Griffies Williams. He was created a Baronet in 1815 for
reasons that are unknown and was created Sir George Griffies Williams of
Llwynwormwood which was his main residence.
Sir George had suddenly and unexpectedly come into the possession of great
wealth. He married three times, first to Jane daughter of Rev J Lewis of
Tredefed Pembs. His second wife was Anne Margaretta Evans daughter of
Herbert Evans of Highmead near Lampeter, she was twenty years old when she
was married at Llanwenog church with consent of her mother Anne Evans of
Highmead. There were eleven children of this marriage and all baptised at
the church in Myddfai. His third marriage was to his cook by whom he had
already had two illigitimate children. Sir George died on 28th March 1843
in his London residence at 73 Albany Street, Regents Park aged 83.
.It appears as if they lost the estate because of morgates to an extent of
£51,000 possibly more. The estate was compulsorily sold off but in three
stages 1879, 1909 and 1912. (too much information to type out)...
There is a picture also of the ruin of Llwynwormwood Mansion, a place to
keep cattle fodder. There are two pictures, one of The Rev Sir Erasmus
Henry Griffies Williams Baronet of Wormwormwood and another of Lady Anna
Margaretta Griffies Williams mother of Sir Erasmus. Daughter of Herbert
Evans, Highmead
Try and obtain a copy as it is well worth the read......let us know if you
find one...
regards Pauline

I joined the list just in time to see it crankup into plenty of
discussion.
Tell me what rain looks like! Here in New South Wales (OZ) we are in
the
grip of a 100 year drought event and hoping it does not turn into a 500
year
event. Our water resources are at 40% sort of.
Back to "on-topic"
can anyone in CMN who has some knowledge of Myddfai by Llandovery tell me
why the old "house of LLWYNYWERMWOOD " is marked on the 'on line' map
on
the
Cmn Cty Council site as a ruin? and what led to its demise.
My g.g.grandmother was Mary Anne Caroline Catherine Williams (I have also
seen the Surname as Griffies-Williams) and the descendants here in
Australia
have no information on the family.and its apparent demise?
So far I found her baptism on IGI on 12 APr 1813
Hope someone can help.
