Dear Listers
I am new to the list and to research in Wales and wonder if anyone can help
me with my husband's family.
His gggrandfather Elworthy George TAYLOR (he seems to have used both
christian names at various times) was born in Bridgewater in1826. He married
Emma
PRITCHARD in Monmouth in about 1846. The first child Macey Francis was born
there in December 1846.
Macey Francis was married as TAYELOR to Jane Alice WADE (b. Yorks) in the
December quarter of 1867 in Carmarthenshire. I have ordered the certificate,
but have not received it yet. A son, Alfred Robert, was born in Carmarthen
in 1868/9.
Later children were born in Middlesex, but I think that they were probably
in Carmarthen in 1871. I wonder if there is an index available and
accessible. If so, may I please request a look-up? By 1881 Macey Francis was
a mercantile clerk.
Family lore relates that the name Taylor was changed by an uncle who worked
as a lawyer? in Carmarthen and was tired of being muddled with all the
Taylors there, so suggested that they all join him in adding the E. I do
realise that such stories are not to be depended upon, but there might be a
grain of truth in there somewhere.
Other first names used, which were apparently surnames were MACY and HOWELL.
If any of this rings any bells, I should be very pleased to hear about it.
Thanks and regards
Heather Tayelor
