I have mailed you some material today that might be of some limited help
regarding Upland Lodge.
If any one on the list has ANY information about Upland House, a large mansion
on the banks of the Towy in Llandefeilog I would be interested This property
seems to have existed without ever having been "Googled", there are only a few
references to it in it's later incarnation as a residential Home for the Aged,
yet in 1881 it is the home to Deputy Lord Lieut of the County.
One remarkable fact, I have the 1891 map of this area ( on the Towy side of the
A484 in Llandefeilog) and recently downloaded the 2004 aerial photo. The field
layout, the layout and range of the woodlands, the farms and roads are virtually
identical. Nothing much has changed in 100 years, but from a social perspective
everything has The House was formally a mansion occupied by a large servant
population and owned by gentry families with English names ( 1841-Everest,
1851-Loftus Peacock etc ). Those families are gone the House is a Home for the
Aged. But the countryside seems unchanged.
