Thanks JOY You have increased my knowledge base dramatically, it appears that my
grandfather Thomas Griffiths worked ( as Gamekeeper) to Edward Moris Davies ( no
relation!). This list has so many resources it is sometimes amazing.

Major Francis Jones in 'Historic Carmarthenshire Homes and Their Families'
has a short entry for Upland House, Llandyfaelog as follows:
On high ground above the east bank of the Tywi, a quarter of a mile south of
Towy Castle. Upland is a large double-pile house of three storeys, ranges of
five windows, and a pillared entrance, probably an early 18th century
edifice. There are imposing outbuildings. It is marked on Kitchin's Map, 1754, as
the seat of 'Hughes. gent'. When I visited it in 1970 it had been purchased by
a developer who was then in the process of renovating it, and within a few
years completed the work, preserving its appearance and original features in
excellent manner. Today(1997) it is in first class condition. It has a long
wing to the rear. Several successive families have lived here, of whom John
Morgan was High Sheriff in 1704, Edward Parry in 1768, and Edward Morris Davies in
1865.
There is a line drawing of the front in the text and the following sources
are given
G.G.B. (Drymbenog) - I cannot trace these in the general list of sources -
perhaps Carmarthen Record Office or the National Library of Wales might know
Plas Llanstephan Collection - at Carmarthen Record Office
G.E.Owen Collection - at NLW

Britain and Ireland

Bye for now
