Hi Pauline,
I am subscribed, don't worry. And there ARE no silly questions...What is an IGI?
Allow me to re-phrase...The problem I have is that USA census forms ask for place of
birth, but all that was required was a state or a country. I can only imagine the reaction
to a lookup request (as an example) for Richard and Ann Pugh from Wales who left from
Liverpool on the Richard S Ely, arriving New York,USA 09Aug1862. The problem is that I
have no clue as to a location in Wales, not even the county. So I am hoping that the UK had
these people fill out some type of paperwork before embarcation which included thier
address in Wales. Am I hoping in vain?
Also, I only recieved the members disk yesterday, but cannot figure out how to look up
baptisms. Are those on the disk?
Regards...Paul Morris

Hi Paul.....have you visited the Ellis Island site on the internet.......
What years are you talking about.....are you subscribed to the members list
as we have lots of US members who could help answer this one...
to subscribe you need to send an email to
soc-carmarthenshire-fhs-request(a)british-genealogy.com
type
subscribe
in the subject nothing else....then when you want to ask a question omit the
word 'request'
Its a silly question but have you checked the IGI?
Paulne

Subject: UK databases
Hello Pauline,
I have been trying to occupy my time constructively while waiting for the
CDs to arrive. Problem is, I keep coming upon Welchmen. I have a son of my
John Morris who seems to have met and married a Mary Ann, born in Wales,
no maiden name. I know I need the marriage Cert. for her maiden name to
persue this one.
I also have a daughter of the same family married to an Owen Pugh of
Wales, Parents Richard and Dinah, with three siblings, all Welch. I have
the passenger list from thier trip to the USA, but have no idea how to
figure out where in Wales they may have lived.
Is there any database available which would list passengers embarking to
leave the UK giving info about what place (s) in Wales they had recently
lived or were born? is there another way to look for such info other than
reading raw census data for all of the UK?
Hoping for an answer I like....Paul Morris
