Dear all
It's a long time since I posted a query, but I hope someone may be
willing/able to help.
My grandmother Elizabeth Ann Morgan gave her age as 26 in 1905 when she
married my grandfather Daniel Taylor. Her address was 22 Delabeche Street,
Llanelli, and her father was Thomas Morgan (who also used the form Morgans)
a tinplate worker.
In 1901 she was a cook in the household of Eliza Huxtable at 4 The Grove,
Swansea, where her sister Esther was also a housemaid. In the census
Elizabeth's age is given as 21, born in Llanelli. Esther was 25, born in
Llangennech. Their parents Thomas and Mary Morgan were living in Delabeche
Street with other members of the family, he aged 50 and she 52. Both claimed
to have been born in Carmarthen.
In 1891 they were all in Delabeche Street as Morgans, similar details
(although Thomas and Mary are listed as speaking both Welsh and English in
1891, but only Welsh in 1901).
In 1881 they are all enumerated at Mount Terrace, Llangennech (as Morgans),
but all claim to have been born in Llangennech.
Thomas Morgans and Mary Davies married on 18 December 1871 at the register
office in Carmarthen. He gave his address as Waundew Terrace, Carmarthen,
and his father as John Morgans, labourer. Her address was Priory Street,
Carmarthen and her father Frederick Davies, bootmaker.
I've been trying to track them down in 1871 through Ancestry, but without
any luck (not helped by his common and changing surname, although he himself
seems to have consistently used the "s"). I've also so far not found any
birth record for Thomas (about 1851).
I wonder if anyone can help?
