David, have you tried to locate a birth certificate from Carmarthen itself,
and not GRO........that is the route I always take........its not a name
like most of us have ie.. David Davies.......John Jones etc......so they
should be able to find him.
Yes although Registration came into being in 1837 it was not law to register
until 1874, and some did slip through the net........
I can see that William, Thomas and Joseph were born prior to 1837 so the
only place they will be are in the parish registers, or if non-conformist
they will only be found if the minister kept records........
hope this helps Pauline

Subject: [Cmn-L] Viponds.
Hi List,
Some help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
I cannot find a Richard Vipond born 1838/9, IGI have a birth date 10 June
1838. I cannot find him on BMD. He could be born in any one of three
Counties Carmarthenshire, Glamorganshire or Monmouthshire The spelling of
the Surname Varies so much on ancestry, I have found Vissond Nipond,
Nepond Bipond Bipon Lipond Jipond I have tried nearly all computations on
the key board but still not found him!!!
I saw a comment that Births and Deaths did not become compulsory until
1874, Mirages 1837 can anyone confirm? I think it was compulsory for all
three from 1837, hence my belief that I should be able to find the birth
cert for Richard, and the place that his father's family William born
Cilycwm area? 1807 were living at that date. William born Cilycwm 1825,
Thomas born [?] 1828 Joseph born [?] 1827 were Richards brother's none can
be found in the 1841 census.
If regressing a birth WAS compulsory how can I go about finding it by date
and first Name any ideas would be appreciated.
David Thomas.
