Hi Peter,
Just been looking on this site, and may have had a break through with a
family member. I was born at Seaside in 1947, moved to Newport in 1961, and
read all the e-mails connected to Llanelly(i) avidly. Having read the
second book only last week whilst on a visit, I was very keen to read what
was on this site, especially the article on Marine Street. I was Christened
and attended St. John's Church and a cousin still lives in Marine Street.
The article states that a ropemaker named John Jones lived at no. 4, my
paternal G.G.Grandfather, John Jones, was a ropemaker He was born in
Swansea in 1837 and married a Mary Thomas, who I cannot find any record of.
They had a daughter Mary, born Swansea in 1861, who married my
G.Grandfather, George William Wright Crocombe May, Swansea 1880. My
Grandfather was born in Llanelly in 1890, but I didn't know where John and
Mary were in 1897, they both would have been about 60. Could this possibly
be my John?, has anyone any information about Marine Street in 1891 or 1901?
Also is anyone else researching the May family?
Thanks,
Jenny 5007
