Bad luck Jennifer
I know Dad was stationed at Chelsea Barracks during the war. He didn't get
home to Ireland very often. He and Mum married at Chelsea Register Office in
1941. Mum eventually got her passport to come to Ireland and live with her
in-laws. My brother, who was born in Belfast in 1943, was 15 months old
before Dad saw him.
Maybe your Irish Guard had a few days off and rather than trek to Ireland
spent a few days in Wales?!
All the best

Hi Victor and Pat. Thanks for your reply. I'm trying to date a
photograph
of my late Mother which was found amongst a late aunt's papers.
Apparently
her father was a bit of a camera buff and took the photo(according
to
another aunt who died late last year) She believed that a man also on the
photograph was in the Irish Guards, and he was Mum's penfriend. I assume
it
was taken in Llanelly(where all the family lived). He was not in
uniform,
so it was probably post-war, am I right in thinking that? I thought that
he
may have been stationed in Llanelly, but after looking at the Irsh
Guards
website, he was probably only visiting. And I thought it was quite easy
to
date photgraphs!!!
Thanks anyway,
Jenny
