Subject: {not a subscriber} Erw wastad fawr/fach
I hope you don't mind me coming in on this Llanedi place-name.
I've been
researcjhing the parish place-names and their etymologies for a number of
years now.
Erw wastad is the name of two farmsteads. -fach and -fawr are
distinguishing elements one 'small' the other 'large'.
Erw is Welsh for 'acre' and gwastad is Welsh for 'level' giving a meaning
of level acre, a level piece of land. It must be remembered that Llanedi
is a hilly parish and a level piece of land would be readily identified.
Hope this helps,
Deric.
