Next page you will see "The Catalogue" and on the right the word
"Search"
Select this
should bring you to this page
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp
Then the next page you will see enter " word or phrase" put in the surname
followed by the intitials without fullstops
at the bottom of this page you will see enter series code " enter" BT372"
You should now come up with a line of
Reference No BT372/.../... ,Discharge Book No. ,Surname, Intitials, date of
birth, and place of of birth.
This will list a single entry or if the person has the same surname and
initials several entries. Select the one you want
then go to the menu bar above and select on-line shop. Give them the
reference, pay up, then next day you should be
sent an e-mail with a link to a webpage download of jpeg photographs of the
documents.
I know it seems complicated, but thats professional archivists for you.
never get to the to gritty bit without
stupid round robins or complicated references. If you have a problem e-mail
me the persons surname and initials
and I will see what I can do.
If the discharge book No. is less that 6 digits I think it is before the
start date and Southampton might have his recordm cards.
Unfortunately Kew has the bad habit of putting start and end years inscope
of documents that bear no relationship to the
actual start and end years of the documents.
