Dear Mary Jane
You may be interested in this extract from the diary of a Mormon missionary,
who lived and preached at Llangadog from 1849-1851. The locals clearly gave
him a hard time. The diary has been translated from Welsh, by someone who
doesn't know the area, as some of their suggestions for place names are
clearly wrong. (in this context
Dyfryntawi must mean Dyffryn Tywi, the vale of the Tywi).
There is also reference to Mormons in Llanelli at this time.
Hope this helps
Anna

Subject: [CMN-L] Carmarthen Mormons
Since the list is quiet right now, I have a general question. Does
anyone have any info. about Mormons in
Carmarthen around 1850 before or after? Using Family Search recently,
I found a relative who left
Carmarthen about 1850 with a group of British Mormons going to Salt
Lake City, Utah. She was only
18 years old and unmarried. I wonder what her family in Carmarthen
thought of that! All of her family
remained in Carmarthen and I wondered if there were many Mormons then.
Perhaps the rest of the
family were Mormons and I never knew that. The family name was Richards
and she was a sister of
my Gt-gt Grandmother.
