Thanks Pauline,
Those marraiges look like the right ones to me! (even though the HOWELL
one took place after the event).
I had seen the census entries for 1841 and 1851, but haven't been able to
locate Evan HOWELL on the 1841 census at all. I think Ann was dead by this
time. The birth certificate of the youngest child, Titus, gave his birth
date as 19th AUgust 1839 but the birth was registered by Henry JENKINS (no
relation as far as I can see) on 19th September, 1839. I have a death
certificate of an Anne HOWELLS, of Trehir Llanboidy, died of child birth
on the 13th July! 1839. Maybe Henry JENKINS couldn't remember exactly when
Titus was born!
Evan HOWELLS lived at Bwlchmelyn till he died in 1870. He is buried in the
same grave as a John HOWELLS who was born in 1813 and died 1855. No idea
how he relates.
Sophia puzzled me as well, but in the 1861 census she is listed as his
neice (probably of his unmarried sister Mary).
One thing that has intrigued me is that each family lived for a really
long time at each house, but after the father's death, they leave. I
assume they were renting, but how would I find out more? Did the rental of
the property pass on in the family or did it just go to whoever wanted it?
Thanks a lot,
Denise
Evan HOWELL, a carpenter, born abt 1808 Llanboidy, son of John
HOWELL and
Elizabeth.
Evan HOWELL was married to Anna GWYNNE, about whom I know nothing as she
died in 1839.
Son John HOWELL, a carpenter, born abt 1836 LLanboidy lived at Bwlchmelyn
Llangan parish in 1850s.
John HOWELL married Elizabeth THOMAS at 1855 Henllan Chapel. Elizabeth was
daughter of William THOMAS, also a carpenter, born about 1809 in
Llanboidy. William THOMAS and family lived from 1841 to 1883 at Pant,
Llangan parish.
William THOMAS was married to Elizabeth RICHARD, born about 1813 in
Cyffig.
Any information about these families welcome.
I have a baptism for an Evan HOWELL on 20/5/1807 at Trinity Chapel (I
think - have lost my original transcription) and for Anna GWYNN on
26/5/1815 at the same place, but no information about parents - how do I
know these are the right ones? Any advice appreciated!
Thanks
Denise

HI Denise
Do you have them in 1841 and 1851 census? If so the youngest child in
1851
was aged 7, so either he remarried and was widowed again or the mother was
still alive.
I have a marriage of Evan Howell and Anne Gwynne but later than the birth
of
John
1837 11th April Llanboidy PC
Evan Howell and Anne Gwynne
In 1841 John, Howell and Titus are living with their grandmother
Elizabeth......
1851 Llangan census dist 2b
Bwlchmelyn
Evan Howell hd wid 43 carpenter born Llanboidy
John Howell son 16 carpenter b Llanboidy
Howell son 12 born Llanboidy
Titus son 10 born Llanboidy
Sophia dau 7 born Llangan
Elizabeth Howells 70 wid, mother born Llangan
Mary Howells dau 32 servant born Llanboidy
thus we can see that Evan's mother and sister were residing with them in
1851.......as you can see Sophia is 7, which asks another question, do you
know the answer?
