Hello Denise
I have not had time to digest what you have written but sure our families
are related.
My John Howell(s) married Rachel Evan in Llanboidy on 7/12/1837.
John Howell father was David Howell (Tailor)
The two witnesses to this marriage were Henry Jenkins & Titus Howells.
Most of the family moved to Llanddowror then those who were farming moved in
the 1870's to Pontypridd for follow the mine work.
Keep me in the loop with what info you find, when I have a moment to work on
the tree again will give you what info I have.
At the moment I do not know who this Henry Jenkins was
thanks
Dave Howells

Thanks Pauline,
Those marraiges look like the right ones to me! (even though the HOWELL
one took place after the event).
I had seen the census entries for 1841 and 1851, but haven't been able to
locate Evan HOWELL on the 1841 census at all. I think Ann was dead by this
time. The birth certificate of the youngest child, Titus, gave his birth
date as 19th AUgust 1839 but the birth was registered by Henry JENKINS (no
relation as far as I can see) on 19th September, 1839. I have a death
certificate of an Anne HOWELLS, of Trehir Llanboidy, died of child birth
on the 13th July! 1839. Maybe Henry JENKINS couldn't remember exactly when
Titus was born!
Evan HOWELLS lived at Bwlchmelyn till he died in 1870. He is buried in the
same grave as a John HOWELLS who was born in 1813 and died 1855. No idea
how he relates.
Sophia puzzled me as well, but in the 1861 census she is listed as his
neice (probably of his unmarried sister Mary).
One thing that has intrigued me is that each family lived for a really
long time at each house, but after the father's death, they leave. I
assume they were renting, but how would I find out more? Did the rental of
the property pass on in the family or did it just go to whoever wanted it?
Thanks a lot,
Denise
