Hi Pauline,
He just won't go away will he!
It's just a hunch I had that he might have grown up in Prendergast so
maybe there's hope that there is evidence of his existence there. I
wish I knew when he went to Pwllheli. There's a gap of 7 years between
the births of his children. Either some died, so there would be a death
register for them in Pembs, or he went to sea. I don't know whether
ropemakers ever got the chance to go on voyages. There must be
relatives of his in the census in Carmarthen/Pemb area and I was hoping
that there might be a clue that would help lead me to somewhere. You
know yourself that sometimes you can come across a cousin or nephew
that happened to be staying there at the time, only it is difficult
with the 1841 census for obvious reasons. Other resources would be the
Trade directories and assizes to check but that sounds a bit of a long
search.
Can I ask Carmarthen for a photocopy of his marriage record then? I am
not sure what info there is on such a document being before 1837 and
all that.
Thanks for your continued interest in this!
Gwyn

Hi Gwyn
what a shame the bible did not go further back....
yes, the father's name could have been Harry......thus taking the
surname
Harries, but the surname at that time could have been Harry too.....
as not
everyone at that time used patronimics.......
the entry from Llandeilo fawr of Theophilus son of Harry David and
Mary.......he could have been Harry son of David and no surname
there
either.....it's a difficult period to search........
I will see if I can see anything else
Pauline
