Subject: [CMN-L] Children of Jonah Thomas and Elizabeth
Hi (Pauline)
Moving on! Another search, if you would be so kind. I am trying to find
out if there are any records of the births/baptisms of the children of
Jonah Thomas and Elizabeth. Jonah was born about 1781 (not in the county
of Carmarthenshire according to 1841 census) and Elizabeth (probably
Rees) was born abt 1776 in Llanfihangel. I have a possible marriage for
them on 20 Feb 1800 in Llangynin (part of the Derllys hundred). Jonah was
orginally a Carpenter by profession but by 1841 was Publican of the Royal
Oak, Furnace(Cwm Ddyche), Llanelli, he also appears in the 1833 register
of electors at Cwm Ddyche.
Children I know about are:
Phoebe. B.abt 1812 Llanelly
William. B. abt 1808 ("In County", I suspect Llanelly but he died before
the 1851 census)
Elizabeth. B.abt 1806 Llanelly
John. Who I am fairly confident was born abt. 1800 St.Clears.
Therefore it looks like the family moved from St. Clears to Llanelly
sometime between 1800 and 1806, and then settled in Llanelly. St.Clears
also seems to tie up with Llangynin (where parents married) as if you
search for Llangynin on google maps it comes up with Llangynin, St.Clears,
Carmarthen, Dyfed. (looking at the map Llangynin looks a really small
place even now, so must have been tiny in 1800). Google says that
currently the Parish church for Llangynin is St. Cynin and therefore was
also possibly the Parish church in 1800? Elizabeth's birth place of
Lanfihangel would fit in with a Llanfihangel Abercywyn, near St.Clears I
have found on Google maps.
Many thanks
Roy
