Subject: [!! SPAM] Re: [CMN-L] Guilds/Apprenticeships?
Hi Roy
Don't neglect the possibility that in later years an employed tradesman
may well have joined a Trade Union. My granddad was a carpenter in Carms
and I remember seeing his TU membership card dated in the 1920s. I can't
remember the name of the union but it was specific to skilled
woodworkers. It is likely such organizations existed from the
mid-to-late 19th Century. There are some records relating to
Manchester-based unions in the Greater Manchester Archives, so County
Record offices are a possibility. Perhaps the A2A site might be a first
stop?
Best wishes
