Pat it all matches. Are you related to Sherlock Holmes?By all indications Miriam was the
daughter of Mary Williams(perfect age match) and her 1st marriage to Richard Davies?and
apparently when widowed moved next door to her mother Rachel and was probably at grandmas
house when the Census taker called. In Pa. newspapers my clan would boast of their
relationship to Morgan B Williams wealthy mine owner and former U.S Congressman. Miriams
obituary writer made this connection but omitted two other living uncles: Daniel and
Wm.J.P(my G,Grandfather) and Mary who apparently?wed a Lewis after being widowed and was
alive and living in Wales at the time of Miriams death.? Cant believe everything we read
in the News Paper.Have one little mystery left as to the Williams brothers,? 1861 census
Lists Rachel, same location with son Timothy Theophilus age 7 and son John age 18 miners
son. this was my last contact on John. Wonder if he was handicapped therefore unemployed.
Did he liveon and mar!
ry, have children etc? He was not listed as a survivor when mother Rachel died in 1887.
Also have looked high and low for the death of Wm. Williams, the patriarch of the family
who reported died in March 1847 at the same location listed here.Pat I cant thank you
enought...Fond Regards....Bill

Hello Bill
I had a look at this and have worked out a possible theory - can't prove
it without some certs.
1. In the 1871 census Rachel Theophilus is living at Pentwyn No 1 with
son Timothy.
At Pentwyn No 2 is
Mary Davies H W 38
Miriam " dau 10
Elizabeth " dau 8
Rachel " dau 6
Have you seen this? If not I can send you the census page.
I am guessing this is the same Miriam Davies that is shown as a
grandaughter in 1881.
Looking back in the census I can see that William Williams and Rachel
had a daughter Mary shown as aged 7 in 1841 - this could be the same
Mary.
There is a possible marriage on FreeBMD Sept 1852 Llandovery 11a/687
Richard Davies
Mary Williams
Alternatively there is a birth
Miriam Davies June 1860 Llandovery 11a/617
This certificate might give quite a few clues to the problem.
1861 census for Cilycwm shows
Richard Davies H M 29 Lead Miner GLA Merthyr Tydfil
Mary " wife M 27 CMN Llanfairarybryn
Anne " dau 4 "
Catherine " dau 3 "
Miriam " dau 1 "
If this theory is OK then Miriam is the Gdau of Rachel Theophilus
What do you think??
Cheers
Pat

List..Need help with a dilemma. 1881 Census lists a Rachel Theophilus, widow(my
GG grams)thru 1st marriage to Wm.Williams who predeceased her, living
on farm
in
Pentwyn with Grandaughter, Miriam Davies, age 21 born in
Llanfair-ar-bryn,
unmarried, servant. She and Rachel came to US in 1883. Miriam would wed a
Wm.J.Davies , have 3 children, Emily, Mary and Miriam and died in childbirth
age
38 in 1900.Cant figure for she wasnt the daughter but the niece of
Cathryn
Thomas Evans, Morgan B. Williams and Timothy Theophilus. The other Williams girl
was Mary who wed a Lewis and remained in Wales. No living parents
listed in
Miriams obituary and Mary was still alive in 1900.Cant figure who her parents
were that directly relates her to the Williams clan???Welcome to all
suggestions. Thanks, Bill
