I have been a 'professional member' of the website, The Genealogist for some
years now and have watched it expand enormously.
I use this site as well as ancestry and find it invaluable in my research -
basically what I cannot find on ancestry I find on The Genealogist.
As well as a good set of census records they have the BMD indexes 1837-2005,
Overseas marine deaths, WW1 & WW2 Death indexes and nonconformist registers
held in RG4 at Kew.
What is particularly useful with the census records is they have been split
into years & counties in much the same way as ancestry but you can also
search most years by address, occupation etc. very useful!
The parish records section is scans of printed books for many villages &
tows within most counties.
There are a few directories fully searchable.
Also available are Wills Indexes and some specialist indexes - 1873
Landowners, Knights of England and CLIP (Crew List Index Project).
Personally, I find it complements ancestry very well.
Hope this helps.
All the best, Anne.

my question regards the site "the genealogist" site - claiming to have the
most complete records for english parish
records and separate search machines for london etc
does anyone know if it it is really more compehensive than ancestry.co
i dont mind splurging out but not if it reduplicates memberships that i
