hi pat
yes the one i was researching was a distant ancestor of mine, benjamin
davies the sometime cabinet-maker and umbrella maker (!) of Carmarthen in
census from 1841-1871 - i was delighted to find his marriage to phebe (also
pheby, phoeby and once even pheoby) thomas and birth of their children all
documented in the parish records. the problem was tracing benjamin back
further.
thank your for making me rethink sarah davies in the 1841 census
as a possible mother of benjamin davies
i had checked her out earlier - she is down in the burial records shortly
after the 1841 census was taken,
but for some reason i dismissed her as an option because that would make
her born in the same year as benjamin's mother-in-law, sarah thomas (1761)
but of course that is pretty circumstantial reason on my part to dismiss her
i took your advice to check other possibles, particular david davies who
married sarah hayward in 1796 in carmarthen - problem is that benjamin
davies was born in llanboidy though he moved to carmarthen later but maybe
people were mobile even at that early period
* what i would like to ask is this: when i tried to check out the bonds and
fitats transcripts for the various david davies of that period the link
wound up in an eternal loop and would not open*
would this be a problem at my end? or with the link?
thanks
mervyn

Hello Merv
Is your Benjamin Davies the one living in Carmarthen and married to
Phebe?
if you are looking for his parents then in the 1841 census there is a
Sarah Davies aged 80 in the household.
Although the 1841 census does not show relationships there is a chance
that she may be his mother.
That would give you something to start with.
The only marriage in Llanboidy of the right sort of time with a bride
called Sarah is Thomas David of Llangan to Sarah Thomas on Apr 8 1794.
You could also check other possible areas in a simialr way.
Cheers
Pat
