Hallo
I'm just looking for a bit of help with one set of
great, great grandparents.
William Rees: born 1791-ish, possibly in Haverfordwest
area. 1841 census has a William and Martha Rees
(complete with my great grandmother Sarah, then a
child) living at Priory Street. William is listed as a
labourer. Martha was probably born in Narberth.
1851 census has the same family (I believe) living at
Castle Green, Carmarthen.
In 1861, there is a Martha Rees living at 156 Parade
Row. Sarah is still with her but now married to Thomas
Davies (the one who later becomes Davies the Suit, ie:
a tailor) with a 10-month-old daughter (of whom I had
never previously heard) called Mary Ann. I can find
nothing further about Mary Ann at the moment; perhaps
she did not survive infancy. Presumably, William Rees
had passed on by 1861.
I have failed to discover Martha's maiden name and
know nothing about either side's antecedents.
If anyone has any ideas, I'll be pleased to hear about
them.
Many thanks.
Gaynor Carruthers
