21st Feb - average weekly attendance 43.2
Inspector's report - attendances continue very irregular which accounts in
a large measure for the low quality of the work. The reading is still
monotonous . arithmetic written and oral is very weak. the discipline
should improve . The pipe leading from the stove should be immediately
repaired. Mary A. richards certificated teacher Annie A Owens pupil
teacher , end of 3rd year , laura E. Topliss monitress.
3rd April -market day , only 17 present , sent home . average attendance
for week 34.4 . closed for Easter.
14th April . Reopened . Attendance small , setting potatoes.
25th april - resigned the charge of this school today . M. A. Richards
28th april - I , Mary Louise Owens , take charge of this school
2nd may - average weekly attendance 39.6
6th May - admitted Richard Lloyd Williams , David Williams , Elizabeth
stone , mary Stone and Elizabeth daniel.
13th May - admitted Jane Jones , John Lewis Rees , margaret Rees and Hugh
Edmunds.
15th May - Ascension Thursday. 34 this morning , half day for Llanelly
fair.
19th may - very difficult to teach annie Jones stitching , standard 3
girl.
26th May - whit Monday
29th May - market day
2nd June - admitted catherine Thomas , david jenkins and daniel Jones.
9th June - admitted Elizabeth davies
10th June - admitted margretta Evans
16th June - admitted william Morgans
17th June - In the afternoon found that Tom Phillips had not benefitted
much after the morning's instruction. Admitted catherine and margaret Rees
, had been in this school before.
30th june - admitted Arthur Jenkins.
4th July average attendance 65.3
9th July - pupil teacher in Swansea for scholarship examination.
15th July - The very backward children are raynor Thomas , david John
southcott , Rosetta jenkins and John daniel. they all attend school very
irregularly especially raynor Thomas.
17th July - closed for holidays.
18th Aug - reopened . Hay harvest.
25th aug - arithmetic - the majority work their sums faily. The
exceptionas are tom Philpott who attends irregularly . Henry rogers ,
lizzie Thomas , Mary Jane Williams, Mary H. Rees.
1st Sept - Admitted to infants kate Rowlands and mary thomas.
2nd Sept - hay and corn harvest,
9th sept - children sent home early in order to visit the Temperance
Demonstration in Llanelly.
15th Sept - Transferred children from standard 1 back to infants class.
Rosetta Jenkins has not until some months back been able to speak
intelligently. M S Richards been twice readmitted.
17th Sept - ellen Phillips made very fair progress.
22nd Sept - The bous did their maps very fairly on their slates.
20 Sept - only 11 in school . drawing potatoes.
29 sept - great difficulty in teaching Annie Jones Std 3 needlework owing
to imperfect eyesight.
5 Nov - cautioned Std 1 pupils about counting with their fingers.
6th Nov - market day.
11 Nov - Specimens of needlework fairly done with the exception of mary
Ann davies Std 1 , Elizabeth Griffiths std 4 and Annie Jones std 3.
21 Nov - George Topliss absent many weeks . kept home to attend to the
birds , his father being a gamekeeper at stradey.
4th Dec - Mr Griffiths mason and others working on repairs to the school.
8th Dec - Teacher ill. pupil teacher took charge of 1st class and ellen
Phillips took the infants.
17th Dec - mary Louise Richards exceedingly backward in 3 elementary
subjects. Attendance very irregular , lives some distance from school.
Returned her to infants class.
18th Dec - Tom Philpott very slow in arithmetic . He seems to give up when
left to himself and cries from despondency . When I remain with him while
working a sum he does fairly well.
19th Dec - a great fall of snow in the night . 13 present , sent home.
Broke up for Christmas.
29th Dec - reopened . 43 present.
30 Dec - Intensely cold and bitter.
31st Dec - 15 attended , sent home.
