Hello Pat
Thanks very much for your email.
Yes, this is my Rowland (b.c.1760) REES family. As well as Alice, Rowland
had another daughter Rachel, a son David (my direct line) & possibly a son
Rowland who died young. Rowland did marry Alice BEVAN (nee LEWIS) in 1798 in
Llangyfelach and I have researched Alice LEWIS but I have been unable to go any
further back with Rowland REES. The transcribers of the Llangyfelach parish
records say that they are "suspiciously thin" for some years. Rowland gave his
county of birth as Glamorgan on the 1841 census and I have assumed his
baptism was missed out of the records, was non-con. or didn't happen.
Earlier this week a Glamorgan lister pointed out the 1759 Llandilofawr
baptism of a Rowland Rees and I thought it merited further investigation,
particularly as the mother's and Rowland's daughter were named Rachel.
I also realise that people may, wittingly or not, give inaccurate info on
census returns and that maybe I should put Rowland's claim to being born in
Glamorgan to one side for the moment.
Hence my plea for help on the CFH list - it would be good to discount or
prove that the Rowland REES baptised in 1759 is mine or not, and if so, to
perhaps fill in the gap between 1759 & 1798, perhaps I may find an explanation for
a move to Llangyfelach at a young age in the burial records of Llandilofawr.
Anyway, thanks very much for taking the time & trouble to email, it was
appreciated.
Regards,
Liz
