Hi Karen,
The modern spelling is Eglwyscummin - 1 word. In the past it was Eglwys
Cymmin or Eglwys Cummin, literally Cummin's Church. No idea who Cummin was
though! I believe the present church was built in the 10th century on the
site of a 5th century church, probably Cummin is from that time.
I have a Mary Brown in my ancestry, from Eglwyscummin, my 4x great
grandmother, but her dates are c1722, married 1744. A Sarah Brown married
into the family in 1816, so there were several Browns in Eglwyscummin,
probably connected as it is an uncommon name in the parish. I can't find out
any more about them though.
Have you tried looking for wills for Chaplain? It might be worth a try.
Kind regards,
Elizabeth
