Pauline, I'm sure the Family History Library is using the
indexes.
The library is an amazing place. It is five floors of records. In
fact, I was there last week and the Welsh book section has expanded
considerably. There are now books with some grave transcriptions from
some chapels in Wales, These have been done by chapel-goers. What a
wonderful service they have provided in preserving the grave marker
information before the brambles wear them away.
When I volunteered there a a couple of years ago, I was able to find
a reference to my English grandfather who wen to mine gold in the
Canadian Yukon in 1929. My mother never really knew what happened to
him or where he was buried as she was a small child when he left her
in the care of his sister. I ordered the death record from British
Columbia and waited three weeks to receive it. It tells me where he
died and not starvation as the family always thought. I was then able
to travel there to find his grave. Here's the point though, the death
record I ordered was held at the Family History Library and I
needn't have waited. It was one floor about me in the Canadian
section. I spent most of my time in the England, Wales, Scotland and
Ireland section. I often met persons from Wales who had come for a
week to research. Oh, how I love to hear the Welsh language or the
proper English that is spoken by the Welsh people! It brings tears to
my eyes and reminds me of my late father and grandparents. Susan
