Sorry Greg,
I hope the following helps.
You can find the newspaper site by going to
http://newspapers.bl.uk/blcs/
<
http://newspapers.bl.uk/blcs/>
This is a subscription site, details at the above web page.
Some local libraries have a subscription that gives you access to the site (sometimes only
from library PCs) provided you are a member of the library.
For example, my local town library does not subscribe to the newspapers site, but does
have a subscription to
ancestry.com - available in the library.
You will need to find your local library's website (google worked for me) and follow
the links to their online services. Alternatively ask at your library's information
desk. The amount of information on library websites varies widely, so a personal visit
might be the only option.
To see what might be available look at the Cardiff website:
www.cardiff.gov.uk
<
http://www.cardiff.gov.uk>
Click on 'catalogue and online services' in the blue menu list on the left.
Page down and click on 'online services' in red under the online library heading.
You should get a comprehensive menu of all the online services provided by Cardiff
library.
To go any further you will need to be a member of the library and know your library
membership number so that you can log in.

I'm still out here too - but I've been a bit engrossed.
I went with a friend to the GFHS open day a couple of weeks ago. After
chatting to the guy from Cardiff Library, I found out that I can access the
British Newspaper Library 19th Century British newspapers on-line.
I've found several articles about people named NURSE in the Western Mail
(for example, one was a tub-thumping Liberal, one won some prizes at a local
flower show) and now have to try and find out how they fit into my tree.
Very exciting.
I'm lucky - I work at a University that has a subscription, but I was told
that a number of local libraries also subscribe, so it's worth asking.
A word of warning: You will get distracted by all the other interesting
articles and adverts ;-)
Best wishes
Denise
PS Well done Scarlets on Saturday - I was there!
