Hi Reece
Thanks for the extra information.......
Firstly you will not obtain a birth certificate for Benjamin as he was born
prior to the 1837 Civil Registration Act......therefore there will only be a
record if he was baptised, as you say he was non-conformist ....have you
checked the online records for Abergwilli which you have access to? I
cannot see a baptism for him in Llanllawddog parish church.
Looking for a David Jones is like looking for a needle in a haystack unless
you have concrete information. You are assuming that his wife's name was
Ann? Do you have the marriage certificate for Benjamin Jones, this will
give his fathers name and occupation?
Do you want all of the David Jones over the age of 50 from the 1851 census
Abergwilli.....this too is on the online indexes.....
Let me know
regards Pauline

Subject: [CMN-L] DAVID and ANN JONES
Hi Pauline,
Thanks for yours of today -
The National Archives, Canberra, ACT have the following:
(DAVID) BENJAMIN JONES, wife Jane (Rees), children, Ann, 17, Daniel,
14 and Hannah 7. His father
named as DAVID JONES, Gentleman of independant means. Religion:
Independent. (No mother's name mentioned).
Benjamin and family had migrated under an Assisted Government Scheme
- he was shown as an
Agricultural
Labourer and Ann as a farm servant. We know that he was a Puddler
of Iron in Wales from 1841 and 1851 census H.O. 107 2448 Parish
Bedwellty, Rhymney Iron Works, Mon.
Do you think it would help if I obtained Benjamin's Death
Certificate from NSW Record Office or could we try
for his birth in, what appears to
be, LLANLLAWDDOG, Carms.? They were non-conformist by religion in
Wales and attended the Presbyterian Church, NSW.
Benjamin and Janes's eldest daughter is named Ann, which makes me
think that the Ann is possibly right for
David and Ann's marriage.
Benjamin gave either wrong or misleading information in NSW. Said he
was born at Point Protthy, Wales and married at Abadare, Glamorgan.
Over the last year I have searched and found no such place exists or
has ever existed in name of Pt. Protthy and no marriage found in
Aberdare. Have found one in Llanbadarn Fawr, Cardigan which could be
his - David Jones to Jane Rees 7 June 1837. She was the dau of
John Rees and Hannah Morgan (m. 31 March 1809) Kidwelly, Carms.
Jane was baptised 3 July 1814 Kidwelly dau. of John and Hannah. (I
have son Daniel's birth certificate May 1843 showing both names of
parents).
Forgive me if this is too much information, Pauline but I hope that
it might help.
I know there are more than 300 plus David Jones's in Carms around
this time (maybe that is why my Dad named me Reece Jones in NSW
1930) and as far as I can tell there are only 2 of us in London,
where I live now and am using this in my family tree.
My grateful thanks to you for all your help.
Kind regards,
Reece
