Elizabeth
Thanks for the helpful information.
I think the Joseph and Elizabeth whose gravestones are in Bethleham aren't
the right ones, as the ages are out by quite a lot. Joseph was 52 in 1901
and Elizabeth 53. I haven't been able to find them in 1911 so think they
both probably died between 1901 and 1911.
Thank you very much for your kind offer to have a look
at the burial ground of Seion Chapel when you are next near St Clears. That
would be wonderful. Regards Moyna

Hi Moyna,
Not necessarily. All I know is that at Elim Chapel (Welsh Independents),
the
chapel house or vestry was given rent free or at a reduced rent in return
for carrying out certain duties as caretaker of the chapel, ie looking
after
the graveyard, cutting grass, etc, and keeping the chapel clean and tidy.
In
Elim it meant lighting the fire before the services, putting the hymn
books
out, and generally cleaning up. It would probably have gone to someone of
the same denomination so I would guess that your Davies's were Baptists.
There is a gravestone for a Joseph and Elizabeth Davies in Bethlehem
(Independent), but the ages are wrong - Joseph Davies died Dec 7th 1915
aged
79, and Elizabeth Davies d August 19th 1919 aged 83. What do you think?
I'm not promising anything, but I will try and have a look in Seion
graveyard next time I am near St Clears.
Regards,
Elizabeth
