Dear CFHS,
I am trying to find out some information about Rev Jonah Evans (b1836 - d1896) born in
Llanstephen in 1836 but lived in Llansawel. He established the Llansawel Academy in 1871.
I believe he is a distant relative of mine and probably a cousin several times removed
etc. etc.
His son Rev Thomas Eli Evans wrote a book about him (in Welsh) entitled "Blodeuglwm i
goffa y Parch. Jonah Evans (athro ysgol ramadegol), Llansawel"
This book is a softback collection of Welsh language tributes to the Rev. Jonah Evans of
Llansawel, Carmarthenshire. It apparently includes an interesting family tree linking the
Evans families in Llanboidy, Newcastle Emlyn, Llanwinio, Nefern, Saron, etc.
If anyone has a copy that they would be willing to sell or knows where I can get hold of a
copy, please contact me off list. Alternatively I would love to see a copy of the family
tree, for obvious reasons, if anyone has a copy which is e-mailable.
I look forward to hearing from you.
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and that you have a Happy New Year.
Chris Evans.
