Hi Jackie
I couldn't find John with wife Hannah anywhere in the 1851 census using the index
search, so I looked at all the original images for Llanstephen in case they had been
incorrectly indexed.
Your family is not living at the Waunforte farm. This is occupied by David Davies (farmer
of 31 acres), his wife Anna and their 8 children.
There are quite a few Lewis entries in Llanstephan. The only John of the right age I could
find was:
HO107, piece 2472, folio 362, page 12
House schedule 43: Place y Pant - They were all born in Llanstephan.
John Lewis, 40, labourer
Margaret, 30, wife
Mary, 10
William, 7
Thomas, 4
Anne, 1
Could this be your family?
William's age is right. Could Mary be Amy? The age is right. I've looked at both
original images and they are definitely Amy and Mary, but perhaps one of them was
mistranscribed by the enumerator?
Thomas and Anne are not with the family in 1861. A couple of possibles are:
Thomas aged 12, servant to John and Margaret Parry
Anne, aged 12, servant to Richard and Mary Hughes
If this is the right family, perhaps you need to find a death of Margaret and a remarriage
of John to Hannah. From the ages in 1861 Hannah would only have been 16 when she gave
birth to Amy, so perhaps Amy is her step-daughter?
There are too many entries in FreeBMD for a death of Margaret Lewis. A search of John
Lewis m. Hannah between 1851 and 1861 brought up 6 possibles, but there are only 2 brides
names that match up with girls that are single in 1851 and born in Llanstephan:
Sep 1851 Hannah Thomas (born about 1820 according to 1851 census)
Dec 1860 Hannah Jones (born about 1830 according to 1851 census)
Perhaps someone with access to the parish registers can help with BMD.
If you want any more help with the 1851 census entries feel free to contact me off list.
Denise

William son.
All living at "Waunforte" Llwyngwyn, Llanstephan .
