Hi
Just to share this information, I was sent a book of cuttings a while ago ......can see
that we were talking about mine accidents a while ago.....
Emlyn Colliery Penygroes June 1909
E. Morgan, photo by D. Rees Llandebie
A terrible accident occurred at the Emlyn Colliery, Penygroes, on Monday afternoon, which
resulted in the death of Ernest Morgan aged 25 and David Thomas aged 22, whilst another
man named George Roderick received severe injuries to both legs.
The fatality, it is believed was caused by a pin coming loose whilst a journey of trams
was standing at the drift, because a truck which was empty and a carriage loaded with
cinders ran wild, and came in contact with the men.
Both Morgan and Thomas who were single men, were terribly mutilated. roderick, however,
is a married man, and a native of Felingwm.
The accident occurred near the slant, 180 yards from the surface. Morgan at the time was
clearing the slant, whilst the others, it is stated were working up the slant.
(my note.......it does not state from which newspaper......there are pictures of both men,
but now fairly faded)
