Hi Peter
She sounds like some kind of Lady.......have you followed her family
history? My father used to make us toffee as children, that was in the
1950's.....and it was beautiful even if very hard on the teeth!!
Have you found your grandfathers WWI details from Ancestry? I have my
grandfathers who was there twice, first time from Feb 1915 to Oct 1915 for
251 days, discharged as no longer physically fit for war. He did go again
though from 24 Jan 1916 to April 1916, again discharged no longer
physically fit for war service.....it did not state why he was not fit, or
where he served......it did give date of his marriage and the names of the
children upto that date he was of the 7th Reserve Warwick Regt.........he
was deceased by 1930 due to T.B.
Do you want me to look at my indexed for Roger Jones etc., I cannot look in
ancestry as I no longer have that.
Pauline

Hi Pauline
My Grandmother, Elizabeth Lewis was known as the "Top Girl" at the local
Tin
Plate works which I think must have been when she lived in Harold Street,
Tirydail, Ammanford from about 1893.
She was also well known for her home made ointments and in particular one
used for treating Burns which was used by the Tin Plate and Iron workers
up
and down the Valley. Indeed I am told that this earned her the nick name
Mrs
Jones Yr Eli which, if it has been translated correctly, means Mrs Jones
the
Ointment?
(Yr Eli comes from the Welsh "Eli Llosg Tan" meaning Ointment for fire
burns
- or so my Welsh speaking Brother tell me)
I unfortunately left Wales in 1944 when I was aged 7 so I only remember
her
for the slabs of toffee she used to make - which was a rare treat in WW2?
Anyway, my purpose in writing is that despite knowing that her husband (my
Grandfather was injured in WW1 I can't seem to find out what happened to
him
to cause his injuries?
His name was Roger Jones and he was born c 1873. I am still not sure
exactly
where he was born because he seems to have put down where he was living on
his marriage Certificate and Census returns rather than where he was born.
But I have been given a good lead which suggests he might have been born
in
Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire. I am still trying to prove that however.
Anyway, he married Elizabeth Lewis on 29 May 1892 in Llandebie where I was
born some 73 years ago.
Best regards and keep the news flowing
