Dear CFHS,
I have just read, with great interest, an old posting from back in 2001 entitled
‘[Cmn-L] Harries Family, Llandeilo Fawr’.
I believe John Harries was my Great Great Great Great Grandfather and I believe my
Great (x4) Grandmother was Mary Price (or possibly Thomas) who I think married John
Harries on 17th August 1785. I have recently been given a fairly extensive family tree
which goes back as far as my Great (x7) Grandparents, as early as 1694. I am still trying
to understand the origins of this tree and satisfy myself of its authenticity. I have
already proved a considerable amount of it using census information, CFHS, parish records.
www.findmypast.com,
www.familysearch.org and other Internet sources. However, I have been
unable to fathom out John Harries and his two (or three) wives.
According to this family tree, my Great (x4) Grandmother seems to have been born a
Mary Thomas on 30th Sep 1759 and yet she appears to be Mary Price by the time she was
married. Was she married before to a Mr Price or was her real name Mary Price Thomas and
at some stage she dropped the Thomas? One of her sisters was Gwenllian Price Thomas so
this is a possibility.
This tree says John Harries was baptised on 24th Nov 1759 and died on 7th Oct 1850.
I have found Internet records of John Harries marrying Gladis Williams as mentioned in the
original 2001 posting. John and Gladis were married on 13th July 1797 in Llandeilo'r
Fan, Brecknockshire; however I would be very grateful for any further information about
John Harris, his ancestors and his two (or three) wives.
Many thanks in anticipation.
