Hi Robert
Horeb was a baptist chapel in the Five Roads area of Llanelli.......for any
available records it states see Adulam Llanelly. There are records for
Adulam but very sketchy, as we have indexed what was available, but baptists
were not baptised as babies, but when they were old enough to make up their
own minds......
Yes, after 1837 when civil registration came into being, births marriags and
deaths had to be recorded, but saying that it did not become law until
1874......so some did slip through the net. When trying to locate a birth
from the registrars you do need the mothers maiden name as the birth indexes
are by mothers maiden name. Do you know that they were born in Five Roads
area of Llanelly? If so contact Carmarthen registry office and see if they
can help you. I can now see that you have one certificate for John Davies
to a Margaret Stevens, 1855 to 1861 does seem a big gap before having
children, but do you think the earlier ones could have died? Where are they
living in 1851 do you know? What was John's occupation etc etc...

Subject: [CMN-L] HOREB CHAPEL
Hello List
I am seeking information on the Horeb Chapel Records, I read some
information yesterday after seeing it mentioned on the list yesterday. Did
they forward their BMD records to the Registrar, or did they hold on to
them
. I noticed on one site they showed a birth certificate which was
different
from the normal one. I am seeking a family who on the census state
Llanelly
as the place of Birth for children. John DAVIES married Margaret ? they
had
the children David abt 1862 ,Benjamin abt 1864, and Mary Ann abt 1869 . I
have put this to the list before searching for who Margaret is most Censi
she claims Trelech as birth Place. Benjamin is my interest and Registrar
had a Benjamin born Llanelly to a John Davies and Margaret Stevens, I have
the Certificate for that marriage but being married in 1855 and no
children
until 1861 does not feel correct. John was 7 yrs older than Margaret on
the
1861 census. John died in the Jun 1/4 1871. Margaret according to the
Census was born about 1834, Margaret Stevens was born 1832. I have found a
Margaret Davies born about 1834 from Trelech and a Margaret Lewis Born
Cilhrdyne who both married a John Davies in 1860-1 in Llanelly. I have
also
been informed that Benjamin was Christened in Longhor not Llanelly. I wish
they had a name Like Gascoigne the in Carmarthenshire they would have been
easy to find. The Gascoigne,s of Pembroke and Glamorgan I claim.
