Hi Pat
Thank you very much for looking this up for me. My thought had been
that John married Rebecca after Eliza was born as I know that the Ty
Newydd family is the correct one, showing John and Rebecca in 1851 and
1871. As you say with such popular names it is impossible to prove
which is the right one.

Hello Peggie
I see in the 1841 census there is a Mary Evans that could be the wife of
John Evans and therefore the mother of Eliza.
Mary presumably died and John married Rebecca Davies.
There is a possible in the Sept qtr 1845.
Marriages Sep 1845 (>99%)
Davies David Carmarthen 26 703
DAVIES Mary Carmarthen 26 703
DAVIES Rebecca Carmarthen 26 703
EVANS John Carmarthen 26 703
James John Carmarthen 26 703
Jones Margaret Carmarthen 26 703
Kemp Anthony Neath 26 703
Morgan Frances Carmarthen 26 703
THOMAS David Carmarthen 26 703
There is a possible marriage in Merthyr of a John Evans to Mary Davies
on 26 Jan 1836 - could this be them? Although John is shown as aged 20
in 1841 the ages were rounded down and in 1851 he is 34 - so in 1836 he
would be 19.
I see there is another household in 1841 against Ty newydd with
Sarah Davies 60 Farmer
Rebecca Davies 20
Could this be the family of Mary and did John marry Mary's sister
Rebecca after she died? This has happened several times in my family.
Unfortunately with surname Evans and Davies there are many possibles
but I thought this scenario might be a possible - what do you think?
Cheers
Pat
