Hello Denise
I've looked in the 1891 Public Houses census - and the Stanley Arms is no
longer there - it must either have closed or changed its name.
Yes there were an awful lot of public houses - some were in the 'parlour' of
some houses, just the one small front room. In Market Street it states there
are 10 pubs all in the same street within a few yard of each other. There is
only one in Market St now - but then Market Street has been partly demolished
to make way for the St Elli Shopping centre - Market St is now a street that
no-one has no need to go to - the TSB (bank) has even moved premised - there
is only one little shop left which is a book shop named 'Siop-y-Werin' also a
bingo hall next door.
I've checked the 1881 census and there is not any Dingle's there. Also
checked 1851 census for Llanelly town - not there either!!
I have to say it for us who watch british television - I've only ever heard
of the Dingle's in 'Emmerdale' sorry for the pun!!
Speak soon
