Hello Heather
I am so pleased that the information I found on Harriet Griffiths (nee
Howell/s) was of use to yourself - it certainly was an interesting find!!
What you need to do next for you to see for yourself, is to order the
microfilm from the LDS on Trelech-ar-Bettws parish registers for the years
pre 1881 - these are not large registers I believe that I only had to look at
two for the information I found for you. We have the one in 1849 for James,
check out the registers for Harriet Howell for a five year search each way of
1827 (I think we have the one - I did look further afield). Next go and try
and find her mother who was Sophia Howells, we know Harriet was born in 1827
- so work it back from there, say 1810 back.
Next David Griffiths states he was born in Llanfihangel Abercywyn - so order
this microfilm the same time making sure you order the appropriate years he
states he was 25 in the 1851 census - so look around 1826 for starters -
remember some children were baptised as a group - so if he was the first born
it may have taken 10 years to baptise him - this is known to happen - so
always keep this in mind.
Also because it states that Harriets father was William Howell from Mydrim -
Gent look in these registers also, it may give more information.
Take all this into consideration - perhaps it would be easier if you came to
Carmarthen RO to have a look - it would be quicker - there is a wonderful
Golf Course in Pembrey called the Ashburnham Golf Club (The Links) - drop the
men 'Off' so to speak and go to Carmarthen - only about 12 miles from
Carmarthen RO.
Hope all of this helps - speak soon
Pauline
