My interest is in the name ATTEWELL. In the 1881 I traced George
ATTEWELL
born in Oxf. a Chelsea Pensioner of Llanbeblig Militia Barracks aged 39
with a wife Emma aged 29 born Newport MNM.
Is anyone else interested in the ATTEWELL name in Carmarthenshire as I would
like to discover when and where George and Emma married and if they had any
children?

Hi Sue
I think you'd be extremely unlikely to find an Attewell in Carmarthenshire.
I did a quick check of the 1813-37 marriages index for Carmarthenshire and
found none and there were none living in either Carmarthen Town or Llanelly
in 1851. What has made you think that Carmarthenshire is the place to look?
Perhaps Pauline or Richard James will know a bit more.
Curiously there are two ATTEWELLs in south Pembrokeshire and one in the
Cardigan area (1996 telephone book for South West Wales).
There are still ATWELLs (well, at least one - John, an acquaintance of
mine) in Wallingford, Oxfordshire (not far from where you live) and if you
visit the Town Hall in the Market Place you will see that listed on wall
panels are all the mayors of Wallingford since about 1300 and included are
some ATWELLs (in the 19th and 20th centuries I think).
Sorry I can't help any further.
