Bolster does not appear in John and Shiela Rowlands "The Surnames of Wales". I
think from my reading of their work that this would indicate that in does not
appear in more than a .7% concentration in any of the administrative hundreds for
the period 1813-1837. There are thousands of additional surnames throughout
Wales, but this would indicate that Bolster is not a broadly found name in Wales.

I'm researching the surname BOLSTER. So far, I've found it
in Ireland back to
the 1600's A.D., England back to about1450 A.D., Germany back to about 1650
A.D., the Netherlands back to about 1500 A.D., and Flanders back to the early
1400's A.D.
Someone told me BOLSTER might be of Welsh origin so I'm checking with this
list. Is anyone out there familiar with this surname as being in Wales before
1600?
