Thanks for your e-mail querying Ada Mary Ann Ready - Yes Laugharne and St
Clears are separate parishes, adjoining ones at that. Carmarthen in the
Registration District for St Clears and Laugharne. Roaches Laugharne is a
small area not just the one address, there were about 8 separate families -
the occupants vary from farmers to labourers. Carmarthen was the Registration
District and St Clears the Sub-district, which Laugharne is part of.
'GENEDIGAETH yn is-ddosbarth' means
Genedigaeth means 'birth'
is - under
yn - the
ddosbarth - district
Thus saying when in Welsh (which is never read as put in words)
Birth under the District of
I looked in the 1881 census and the IGI in Carmarthenshire only for the
surname Ready and Stares - there are not any!!
Onto your questions on the railways - they had arrived in Llanelli in the mid
1830's - on looking through some books find a snippet that may interest you:-
'Looking around Llanelly 1846 -
Locomotive Engines - An order of several locomotive engines has been
manufactured at the works of Messrs Grylls & Co., and shipped for Ireland.
This is the first locomotive engine of any size which has beeen made in Wales
for exportations. Their works are large and increasing and now that South
Wales in likely to be intersected by railways, that this party will reap the
benefit. We understand they have taken troble to procure from the
manufacturing districts of the North of England good workmen, well acquainted
with this type of work.
I am not sure when the railways were finished in Wales but I do know that they
were still ongoing at the time in question. I can find out for you if you
