HI List,
My Grandmother, Ada Mary Ann Ready was born November 3, 1869 in
Carmarthen. The information that was passed down in the family was a
list of places: Roches, Laugharne, St. Clears, and Carmarthen.
Someone on the Dyfed List suggested that Laugharne and St. Clears were
separate from each other. The other day, I received the verified copy
of her birth certificate. On the photocopied part which was written in
1869, it says "Roaches Langharne" but on the ball point pen part which
was written a week or so ago, it says the registration DISTRICT is
"Carmarthen" and the SUB-DISTRICT of "St. Clears"
I suppose this is just a direct translation but the Welsh for St.
Clears says, "GENEDIGAETH yn ls-ddosbarth"
So my first question is, just exactly where did this birth take place?
My second question pertains to the father of Ada Mary Ann Ready,
Thomas Ready. His occupation is listed as a "Railway Labourer." Can
anyone shed some light on the location that he might have worked in.
(I don't mean a big black thing with wheels and lots of smoke either.)
I suspect that this family was transient since there seem to be
virtually no Ready's in Wales and the mother's name Elizabeth Stares
is equally rare, whereas I understand they were married in London in
1868 and the other children in the family seem also to come from the
London area, (Sibs: Lottie, Fred, and one other) Was there a railway
being built through Carmarthen in 1869?
Thanks for any help with either of these two questions.
