Hello All,
I picked this up from another list and found it interesting:
'1700 to 1875 in Wales and England it was very common to name:
1st son after Father's Father
2nd son after Mother's Father
3rd son after the Father
4th son after the Father's oldest brother
1st daughter after the Mother's Mother
2nd daughter after the Father's Mother
3rd daughter after the Mother
4th daughter after the Mother's oldest sister'
A comment which followed suggested that you should look for gaps of about 2
years between children then check the naming pattern.
What I found interesting was that whilst I can't find any of my families which
exactly fit the pattern, several are very close and gaps in the pattern and in the
two year intervals could suggest the names of children who died.
Hope this will be of interest.
